GQA Approved Centre Conference – 23rd November 2017
The 5th GQA Approved Centre Conference will be held on the 23rd November 2017 at Schueco network centre in Milton Keynes. GQA welcomes colleagues from our Approved Centres to discuss topics relevant to GQA qualification delivery, with workshops including:
1) The Dangers of Asbestos
This workshop will be run by Vaughan Minshull from Aven Training, who are a UKATA (UK Asbestos Training Association) recognised training provider for Asbestos Awareness. Vaughan is a Director of the Company and has many years’ experience dealing with Asbestos in buildings and teaching about the potential hazards from exposure. Aven Training run a regular UKATA Approved Asbestos Awareness training programme that counts for 4 hours certified CPD. This taster session may whet your appetite to complete the course.
2) The Neuroscience of Learning
This workshop will be run by our very own Martin Sadler. Martin is a GQA External Quality Assurer who has a background in learning and development. His interest in how the brain works was triggered when he studied the field of NLP. Martin has used the concept of neuroscience in his previous roles as a trainer and has seen some of the impact it has had on the people who attended his courses. Martin takes great pride designing and delivering training sessions and has delivered sessions on neuroscience to groups of trainers in the police service.
3) CSCS Cards from GQA – Every day is a school day
One of the biggest changes, and in turn, greatest opportunities for GQA and our Approved Centres is the agreement between CITB and GQA that since September 1st this year the only organisation issuing CSCS cards for the Glass Industries is GQA. Sean Hayes, Technical Manager, will be explaining the new CSCS process.
4) GQA Competency Update qualifications for Fenestration
GQA has a suite of Competency Update qualifications for Installers, Surveyors and those who carry out both roles, these qualifications ensure individuals are compliant with the rules for both CSCS and DCLG. The session will be jointly run by representatives from 2 GQA Centres, GFTS and Fit For Trade who will explain their approach to promoting the qualifications, overcoming objections and also discuss their delivery methods. Come along and get involved in the session and share best practice and ideas that will give you additional and repeat business
5) Building Our Skills
We are all well aware of the well-publicised Skills Gap within the wider Construction industry and with the average age of the industry continuing to increase, the question of where our future workforce comes from is taking on more importance.
GQA are looking to harness industry wide support to promote the Fenestration and related industry as an attractive career proposition for school leavers and those looking to change occupations and this workshop will introduce our thoughts, who we have already spoken to, and how you can get involved.
In addition to the workshops, delegates will have the opportunity to network with GQA partners and fellow delegates including CSCS, Inside the box marketing, Corgi Fenestration and Quals Direct.
The conference will close with the GQA Awards. This year we will be recognising those within our network who are “Making a Difference”
