It’s no secret, I firmly believe that we at GQA have the right mix of knowledge and qualification products to offer the entire industry – to benefit both the people and the organisations within it alike.
I’ve been at GQA for the best part of 11 years and previous to that I worked for a large glass manufacturer for 17 years using GQA’s qualifications to develop people throughout the business.
So I’m biased about the quality of the qualifications and the support which GQA can offer the window, door and glazing industry.
It frustrates the life out of me to see companies in our industry being approached by Training Providers from outside ‘selling’ assessment programmes where all their staff will get ‘qualified’ with a generic qualification – non-industry experienced or qualified people making judgements about what is relevant or appropriate for our sector and the people within it.
I have made the point before that better qualified people can deliver direct bottom line benefits to any company. It seems from the survey we carried out at the FIT Show recently, that the industry itself believes this too.
It is really important that the qualifications which people undertake are written to be relevant to the jobs they do in the industry, and are delivered by people who are wholly qualified by experience to do so.
GQA is small, but with roots in the glass and glazing industry since 1990 – some say that we are the industry’s best kept secret. We don’t want to be and we are working hard to raise our profile.
We have no desire to rule the world, but we do have a desire to bring the right people development initiatives to the industry. We want to recognise the skills that already exist, perhaps hone them and help to improve practice and knowledge, and we want to get the right products in place to train the next generation of fabricators, the latest installers and the future surveyors.
We also have qualifications for office administration staff, warehouse personnel, management and leadership, and telesales and door canvassing. The range of industry related qualifications at GQA is more than 100.
Our Approved Centre Network covers the whole of the UK and provides glass, glazing, fenestration and construction related qualifications to help the industry improve.
Our qualifications are key to training, retraining, personal recognition, and on-going compliance. For those on site this includes continued compliance with MTC and CSCS requirements.
Contact GQA for more information on people development qualifications and initiatives. Don’t just implement a generic qualification – ensure it is industry specific, and written and developed by industry people – look for the #BigGreenQ.
