On Monday the 27th June 2016 West Suffolk College hosted the College’s Celebration of Achievement, an annual event where the College celebrate the success and incredible talents of their students with a Gala Dinner held at the beautiful setting of St Edmundsbury Cathedral.
With almost 60 awards being handed out across the wide range of courses that the college offer, it was a fantastic opportunity to recognise the outstanding achievement of our learners.
Tim Warnock, Senior Work Based Learning Co-ordinator for Construction, presented the Outstanding Construction Crafts Apprentice of the Year on behalf of award sponsor Cocksedge Building Contractors Limited, to Fenestration apprentice, Gary Rosser, and said “it was a privilege to present this award to Gary; he has shown great commitment to his learning and his practical skills are at a level that we have never seen before in an apprentice. A very deserving winner”
Gary works for family run business, Rossers Glass and Glazing, based in Sutton, Ely. Throughout the duration of his Apprenticeship, Gary has worked towards achievement of the GQA’s Fenestration Installation and Glass Related Operations qualifications and has proven to be a superb student growing in confidence and ability throughout.
His Assessor, Gary Robertson, commented “The quality of work that Gary has produced, both practical and theory based, has been to a very high level. He has provided some exemplary project assignments with fantastic detail and these are complemented by his ability to put his theoretical knowledge into practice.”
Mick Clayton, GQA Chief Executive, continued with the praise for Gary “it is always great to see achievement of our qualifications, but to hear of Gary’s high skill level and commitment being further recognised with this Award is particularly pleasing. The Award recognises not just Gary’s learning, but the role of the Fenestration team within the College as well. Well done to all”
Gary was thrilled with his award and commented “I am delighted to be recognised for my work within the industry. I really enjoy my job and the variety that it brings each day. My assessor (Gary Robertson, West Suffolk College) has really helped me throughout my Apprenticeship and I believe my qualifications have given me a great start to my career within the industry”
