A great month just gone and another one straight ahead

We had a great September; it included the formal acquisition of a fellow awarding body PAA/VQ-Set. This is significant because it has enabled GQA Qualifications to strengthen its position as the glass and fenestration industries’ leading awarding body by giving us responsibility for qualifications in the Polymer sector; this will bring us into direct contact with some of the Fenestration Industries major employers, namely the PVCu extrusion companies.

The move means that GQA has now widened its qualifications offering, which already includes the practical disciplines of surveying, fabrication, installation, sales, management and curtain walling and façade technology.

PAA/VQ-Set was the awarding body for the polymer, engineering, chemical, pharmaceutical and nuclear industries and as such complements our existing areas of specialist expertise. The acquisition is part of our goal to widen our portfolio of vocational qualifications and underpins our ongoing strategy of growth to be known for providing industry relevant learning.

On the same basis, October will see the opening of the first practical training centre for surveying and installation to be run by the Building Our Skills – Making Fenestration a Career of Choice campaign.

I have long advocated the need for more practical training facilities in the Fenestration Industry to help raise and maintain skill levels, and this will be an important milestone in that journey.

Coupled to practical training facilities at key approved centres, and major industry employers this will see the start of a network of practical training centres which we will champion over the coming years. It is another exciting moment in the history of GQA Qualifications, and one we believe will benefit the Fenestration Industry significantly.

Please get in touch if I can answer any questions for you on the above, or if you would like to discuss any aspect of vocational qualifications for industry.
