This qualification is aimed at those who are involved in assembling, installing and subsequently removing formwork
for use in the construction of complex structures. It is not expected that candidates working in this industry all do the
same activities; the qualifi cation is structured to ensure that there is a high degree of flexibility while still meeting
the requirements of the qualifi cation units. The qualifi cation requires candidates to prove they have the skills and
knowledge to work with timber and proprietary formwork systems for at least 2 of the following types of structures:
stairs, landing, ramps, inclined structures, curved or circular structures, or pre-cast forms.
All work must be completed in accordance with legislation, health and safety guidelines and meet the organisational
requirements. The qualifi cation has been developed in a way that will allow employees from companies of all sizes and
specialisms equal opportunity to complete. The standards cover the most important aspects of the job. This qualifi cation
is at Level 3, although some units may be at different levels. Level 3 qualifi cations are primarily aimed at those who are
fully trained and experienced in a wide range of roles that may involve decision making, quality checks, work planning
and supporting others. There is a Formwork Level 2 qualifi cation available through GQA for those whose activities in
Formwork do not require them to work on complex structures.
