GQA Qualifications and CSCS Cards
GQA Qualifications has for many years had a wide range of mainstream glass and glass related qualifications and construction qualifications that gave access to CSCS cards. There are a number of more specialist occupations that are affected by the withdrawal of the CRO card, including film/graphics application, secondary double glazing installation, in-situ glass surface restoration and glass splashback/panel installation. GQA has developed a specific qualification for these roles and is now working on a qualification for installation of GRP products.
GQA’s Q Card is now a partner card to CSCS meaning a card can be requested from GQA without the need for the CSCS touch screen test. GQA can issue temporary, trainee and full cards dependent on qualification status.
Temporary cards are aimed at experienced workers, these can be requested on proof of registration on the relevant GQA qualification and completion of the GQA Health and Safety assessment paper. They are valid for 12 months from the date of issue. Trainee cards are aimed at Apprentices or new entrants to the industry, the same requirements apply but this card is valid for 2 years. The full card can be requested on completion of the GQA qualification. This is then valid for 5 years.
We have 2 levels of qualification in Glazing, Level 2 is suitable for all Glaziers, including Apprentices and new entrants to the industry as well as the experienced Glazier. Level 3 is aimed at the Lead Glazier/Supervisor and has units to cover some of the more technically challenging glazing tasks including maintenance, fault rectification, window filming, shop fronts, overhead installations and structural glass installation.
The Level 2 qualification will give access to a GQA CSCS glazier card, the Level 3 will give access to a GQA CSCS Glazier/Supervisor card.
To request a temporary or trainee card, individuals must be registered on the relevant qualification and under your supervision successfully complete the GQA Health and Safety assessment paper. You then request the card via GQA On-Line, upload the assessment paper and a passport style ID photo. On achievement you simply request the full card along with the qualification certificate. The cards cost £30, we do not charge for the Health and Safety assessment paper, this saves candidates the inconvenience of attending a CSCS test centre and the cost of the test-currently I believe this is £19.50.
