Working in a Glass or Glass Related Industry and need a card for the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS)?
From September 1st 2017 the only place to get a CSCS card for a glass industry occupation is GQA Qualifications. Following discussions between the two schemes, it is agreed that the GQA Q-card is better placed to represent the glazing/fenestration sector. GQA can issue temporary, trainee and full cards dependent on qualification status.
All CSCS cards require qualification registration (Temporary and Trainee cards) or achievement (Full cards) and must, in almost all cases, also demonstrate knowledge of Construction related Health and Safety awareness. To date this has primarily been by completing the CITB Health, safety and environment test; this is accepted for the GQA Q card, but now GQA Qualifications can offer a paper based alternative via its network of Approved Centres.
Temporary cards are aimed at experienced workers, these can be requested on proof of registration on the relevant qualification and completion of the CITB or GQA Health and Safety test completed within the last 2 years. They are valid for 12 months from the date of issue.
Trainee cards are aimed at Apprentices or new entrants to the industry, the same requirements apply but this card is valid for 2 years. The full card can be requested on completion of a relevant qualification. This is then valid for 5 years.
The Q card offers cards for Level 2, Level 3 and Supervisors. Below is an overview of which card you can apply for based on your qualification.
