This qualification is aimed at those who are involved in assembling, installing and subsequently removing formwork. It is
not expected that candidates working in this industry all do the same activities; the qualification is structured to ensure
that there is a high degree of flexibility while still meeting the requirements of the qualification units. The qualification
requires candidates to prove they have the skills and knowledge to work with timber and proprietary formwork systems
primarily for columns, walls, beams, soffits, kickers and pre-cast units in accordance with legislation, health and safety
guidelines and meet the organisational requirements.
The qualification has been developed in a way that will allow employees from companies of all sizes and specialisms
equal opportunity to complete. The standards cover the most important aspects of the job. This qualification is at Level
2, although some units may be at different levels and should be taken by those who deal with routine assignments.
Candidates should require minimum supervision in undertaking the job. A Level 3 qualification in formwork is available
through GQA for those who carry out this type of work in the construction of complex structures such as stairs, landings,
ramps, inclined structures, curved or circular structures.
