Andy Carrington’s Role at GQA

I come from a very technical background and use my experience to help develop new qualifications, questions for knowledge tests and to support my colleagues when they need more detailed information. I am passionate about CPD and training programmes and look to deliver sessions whenever I can, as well as providing quality assurance and guidance to the GQA Approved Centre Network.

What is the biggest challenge/most important thing you do in your job

One of the biggest challenges of my role is maintaining quality within the delivery and implementation of qualifications, encouraging and promoting a reliable and consistent approach to assessment and internal verification.

Tell us something you enjoy about your job

I really enjoy supporting centres in every aspect of their development and seeing the confidence that quality training and assessment can provide for the learners

Tell us about someone or something which has inspired you in your life

Difficult one this one, there are so many potential candidates but for me, Nelson Mandela, what he did and the sacrifices he made to ensure his voice and that of so many others were heard, and the song by Labi Siffre “something inside so strong” is so reflective and powerful. Anyone who makes a positive impact on others, those in the medical profession whose actions both change and save the lives of others should be recognised, and finally my wife who is the strongest and most caring person I know.
