The great thing about my role is that every day is busy. I carry out quality audits on our approved training centres, provide advice and guidance on how to implement qualifications, and work on candidates completed portfolios to ensure compliance to regulations before approving candidate certificate requests.
I also play a role in training my colleagues at GQA on how to train others that they come into contact with at the centres they work with. I really enjoy doing this.
I think the biggest challenge which is also the most important thing about my job it to ensure that the centres are assessing candidates to the required standard, producing quality portfolios and that the centres are complying with our regulations.
I enjoy visiting the centres and helping them to develop their processes and assessment activities. I also like working with new centres to help them to implement our qualifications.
I think the biggest thing that has inspired me has been the varied background I have had and the fact that I have trained in all types of environment on a wide range of topics. I really get a buzz when I train new trainers and assessors and see how they develop in their role.
In my spare time I like to recycle old furniture and make products out of old pallets and timber which was destined for landfill sites.
I have also just started to learn Italian. “Mi Chiamo Martin sono Inglese”
I also deliver some weekend workshops for my local Adult Education centre on topcis such as making stencils, furniture painting, presentation skills and confidence and assertiveness building.
I believe that training and development plays a big part in helping people to achieve a qualification and I would like to see more of it taking place.
